The Team behind Petrus Wandrey

Torsten Sabatier

The Sabatier family manages the greater part of Petrus Wandrey’s estate and the related intellectual property. The aim is to safeguard the work, keep the record precise, and ensure that Wandrey’s idea of DIGITALISM is understood on its own terms rather than flattened into a vague “early digital aesthetic.” In practice, this means careful documentation, responsible placement, exhibition work, and a consistent effort to maintain an accurate, coherent, and verifiable narrative.

Torsten Sabatier is the estate’s official expert on Petrus Wandrey. His authority is grounded in sustained engagement with the oeuvre, and it is reinforced by personal proximity to the artist. Torsten met Wandrey in the late 1990s; over time, professional collaboration developed into a genuine friendship. In that period, Torsten also organized concrete “Aufträge” that brought Wandrey’s visual language into applied contexts, including commissions for Pfizer, the pharmaceutical company, and for Eventim in Bremen. These projects are worth mentioning because they show that Wandrey’s thinking was not confined to studio production. His work is built on systems, symbols, and the transformation of information into image, and that logic can operate convincingly beyond the gallery when it is handled with care and fidelity to the artist’s intent.

Today, the Sabatier team continues this work through exhibitions and related initiatives that keep Wandrey’s position legible to collectors and institutions alike. This includes practical stewardship such as provenance clarity, a consistent approach to cataloging, and reliable guidance on attribution, condition, and context. Wandrey himself entrusted Sabatier with the responsibility of managing his work after his death. This mandate is treated as both an obligation and a privilege, shaping the estate’s standards and long-term decisions. Just as importantly, the estate maintains close and constructive contact with Wandrey’s widow, Ute Janssen, ensuring that ongoing decisions are informed by continuity, first-hand knowledge, and respect for the artist’s life and legacy.

Within this overall structure, Simon Sabatier leads the future-focused development, including the NFT initiatives and broader digital strategy. The intention is not to follow trends, but to extend DIGITALISM into contemporary formats where distribution, reproducibility, and technological mediation are central concerns. In that sense, the estate’s work is both protective and productive: preserving the corpus while creating the conditions for Wandrey’s ideas to remain alive.
